The Camp Health Center Coordinator  (HCC) position is crucial to the health and safety of our programs, and has primary responsibility for overseeing the physical safety and well-being of approximately 100 campers and 25 staff members each week.  This position will take a leadership role on health and safety issues by working with the Camp Directors to set and enforce safety policies for the camp. Duties will vary from day to day, but may include responding to medical emergencies, and general camper healthcare including minor scrapes, headaches, and illness. It is expected that the HCC will perform maintenance and program-related logistics duties when not performing patient care or medication dispensation. This position reports to the Camp Directors. Typical weekly salary for this temporary (mid-June to mid-August) position is $500 - $550 commensurate with experience and qualifications.

 

Responsibilities: 

  • While on duty, respond to any emergency or illness situation by leading the implementation of the Camp’s Emergency Action Plan
  • In advance of the program week, review all medical release forms, enter data into the UltraCamp database, and create a weekly report for field staff on camper medical issues.
  • Notify the kitchen of participants or staff with food allergies well in advance of program week.
  • Responsible for organizing and distributing prescription medication to campers at meal and bedtime. 
  • Must be able to assist field staff with special needs campers
  • Ensure smooth transfer of on-call duty when ending a shift
  • Maintain a clean, sanitary, and efficient infirmary space
  • Work with Program Director and Camp Directors to ensure that program logistics run smoothly.

 

Schedule and Compensation:

  • Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. 
  • This is a 40 hour/week position.  The schedule will be Sunday afternoon through Thursday afternoon with Friday and Saturday off.

Bryant Pond 4-H Camp and Learning Center is located in Bryant Pond, Maine is nestled on the shores of Lake Christopher with 160 acres of forest and mountain trails leading to remote campsites, streams, ponds, wetlands, and a mountain summit.  A short drive from the Campus you can be in the beautiful White Mountain National Forest or the Rangeley Lakes area. The local area provides many opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts including rock climbing, backpacking, hunting and fishing, canoeing, and a large winter ski and sport industry. Portland, Maine’s largest city is only an hour’s drive with live music, great food, and shopping.

Qualifications:
  • The ideal candidate will have good organizational skills and a high maturity level. 
  • Considerable outdoor experience, a high level of maturity, and great energy!  
  • Have the ability and skills to respond to medical emergencies in a backcountry setting (i.e. two hours or more from advanced medical care)
  • Minimum certification requirements: EMT, Wilderness First Responder, Registered Nurse or other advanced medical training licensure.
