The Director oversees research, academic, fiscal, personnel management, communications, and programmatic aspects of the institute, and provides organizational leadership to advance the institute's mission and vision utilizing a strategic plan. The institute is dedicated to advancing sustainable forest bioproducts in three major categories: fuels, chemicals, and advanced materials. This appointment will be paid through a stipend and/or summer salary.

Required:

• Doctorate in related field
• Associate or Full Professor, with tenure, at the University of Maine
• Documented ability to conduct high-quality scientific research, as evidenced by grant acquisition and publications in peer-reviewed journals
• Documented ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Documented ability to be self-motivated and directed
• Demonstrated experience to motivate, supervise, and lead others
• Demonstrated success in working collaboratively with other agencies and organizations, including private industry
• Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills involving a broad range of audiences

Preferred:

• Experience successfully conducting research in response to industry needs, as well as state and federal funding agency initiatives
• Experience seeking participation from and working with diverse audiences including students, faculty, industry/business scientists/mangers, general public and reporters, and public policy professionals
