The UMaine Center on Aging (CoA) is engaged in multiple evaluation, research, and asset inventory projects. These positions require the ability to perform independent research work and other specific duties and responsibilities tailored to meet each project’s needs, as well as be part of cohesive and productive team. Under the general direction of the CoA Director, Associate Director of Research, and senior program staff, the Research Associate will assist in, and take initiative on, comprehensive literature reviews; designing and implementing data collection activities; leading and assisting in data analysis and reporting, including data visualization; providing assistance in preparation of grant reports, presentations, manuscripts, and other reports; facilitating or contributing to stakeholder meetings; project file management and similar project management work. Typical hiring range for this soft-money funded position is $45,000 to $50,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree and three to five years of professional experience in healthcare.
  • Demonstrated experience in the following areas:
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
    • Excellent organizational skills
  • This position requires periodic travel within the State of Maine. The selected individuals must be able to successfully meet this requirement with or without accommodation.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree.
  • Demonstrated experience in the following areas:
    • High level of proficiency in writing research reports and/or grants and in adapting communications for a variety of audiences
    • Demonstrated increased levels of responsibility and initiative
    • Demonstrated ability to supporting or leading complex projects, including supervision of graduate or undergraduate students or community volunteers
    • Demonstrated increased level of support or leading the design of research or evaluation studies
    • Demonstrated ability to conduct and support most aspects of a research or evaluation project, including development of protocols, data collection, report writing, and presentation of findings to clients or stakeholders
    • Demonstrated proficiency in conducting research or evaluation using mixed methods (quantitative and qualitative)
    • Demonstrated ability with basic database management and the use of spreadsheet software
  • Demonstrated proficiency with at least one of the following:
  • Basic quantitative methods (e.g., survey design and analysis)
  • Basic qualitative research methods (e.g., data collection: interviewing, focus groups, observation, document analysis, & data analysis)
  • Knowledge and interest in the field of aging
  • Experience in long-term care (nursing homes or assisted living)
  • Experience with statistical software packages preferred (SPSS, SAS, etc.)
  • Experience in university-based research setting
