The Department of Molecular and Biomedical Sciences invites applications for a full-time, academic-year, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Biochemistry. The successful applicant will contribute to teaching, advising, and providing research opportunities for undergraduate students in capstone research and independent study and for graduate students. The successful candidate will develop and maintain an externally funded research program. Candidates should be able to effectively teach undergraduate Biochemistry courses and develop a graduate course in their specialty taught on an alternate year basis. The specific research emphasis of this position is flexible and may include, but is not limited to, cellular signaling, immune function, molecular toxicology, the biochemistry of cancer, or other topics in biochemistry. The candidate will also engage in student advising. Faculty with 50/50 teaching/research appointments are expected to average 9 credits of teaching per year. Teaching assignments may change with considerable notice based on department needs and the candidate's expertise. Required:

  • Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a closely related field.
  • A planned research program that uses experimental wet-lab approaches to study biochemistry. While computational work is acceptable, and even desirable, it cannot be the sole focus of the lab.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach in the field of biochemistry at undergraduate and graduate levels
  • Strong record or promise of scholarship, evidenced by peer-reviewed publications and extramural research funding
  • Demonstrated ability to advise and mentor students
  • Commitment to enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion within the discipline and institution
  • Post-doctoral experience

Preferred:

  • Research related to biological response to external signals
  • Research that complements and expands the work currently being done in the department
  • Record or promise of high professional and institutional service and leadership capacity
