The Structural Specialist CL2 – Locksmith performs on-going maintenance, repair and upgrading of all lock-sets on campus, including both interior and exterior locks on all campus buildings.  The position is responsible for all components within the doorframe – the door and other hardware (locks, hinges, door openers and closers, etc.). The types of locks vary from tumbler, pneumatic and electronic to panic hardware and handicap actuators. The Locksmith performs installation work to include the physical and programmatic tasks associated with the lock and door work and is expected to have an understanding of the keying hierarchy of the keying system from great-grand masters to single door access keys. The incumbent will also be responsible for gaining the skills and performing the work of a carpenter as this work relates to door and lock installation. This temporary position pays $19.98/hr.

 

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Makes keys.
  • Oils, repairs and replaces locks, hinges, door openers and closers.
  • Operates hand and power tools associated with the locksmith trade.
  • Rekeys locks.
  • Performs carpentry work incidental to locksmithing.
  • Issues keys as directed and records issuance of keys.
  • Orders supplies and maintains inventory, subject to annual budget.
  • Works with Campus PD and Campus Departments to ensure security of all community facilities.
  • Maintains online inventory and information
  • Works with card readers
  • Monitors and troubleshoots assigned systems; processes and responds to work orders to ensure progress, safety, and/or compliance with operational policies and procedures.
  • Maintains and repairs assigned equipment as needed; performs ongoing maintenance checks to determine need and ensure operational safety.
  • Maintains a variety of operational records, logs, and reports.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Required:

  • 3 years experience working in the locksmith field.
  • Drivers license
  • Customer service principles;
  • Safety principles;
  • Equipment use and troubleshooting;
  • Basic inventory principles.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.).
  • Performing manual labor;
  • Ability to understand Material Safety Data Sheets;
  • Ability to pass required safety training;
  • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
  • Positions in this class typically require: Ability to perform physical activities that require talking, hearing, seeing and considerable and repetitive use of arms and legs and moving entire body, such as reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, climbing, lifting, bending, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials. Heavy work: The ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Lifting and exerting forces more than 50 pounds requires assistance by other employee(s) or mechanical assistance. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, wetness, humidity, fire, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, difficult driving conditions, inadequate lighting, work space restrictions, intense noises and travel.

Preferred:

  • 5 or more years experience
  • Certified Locksmith
