This nine-month (academic year) position will be at the assistant, associate or professor level, commensurate with experience. The successful candidate will have a 75% research and 25% teaching commitment and be based at the Gulf of Maine Research Institute in Portland, Maine, as part of a cooperative agreement with the University. The initial teaching assignment will include an average of 4.5 credits per year, and will include undergraduate classes in Fisheries Science and a graduate class in Fish Population Dynamics. The School of Marine Sciences has vibrant oceanography, marine biology, aquaculture, and marine policy programs, with faculty and staff based in Orono, at the Darling Marine Center in Walpole, and at the Gulf of Maine Research Institute in Portland. This position contributes to the University’s Signature and Emerging Areas of Excellence (https://umaine.edu/areas/marine-sciences). The successful candidate will play an important role in a new state-wide, multi-campus graduate program in Fisheries Science, Management, and Policy, currently in the planning stages.
Strategic partnership between the Gulf of Maine Research Institute and the University of Maine: As part of our ongoing partnership, the University of Maine has two School of Marine Sciences faculty based at the Gulf of Maine Research Institute. This partnership allows appointed faculty, along with their lab’s staff and students, to take advantage of the Gulf of Maine Research Institute’s research facility and Portland’s importance as a fishing port.
